Burrell to Receive Polly Sweeten “Excellence In Sports” Award

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Former Yale football and baseball coach Sam Burrell will be given the Polly Sweeten “Excellence In Sports” Award at the third annual Farnam Neighborhood House Sports Celebrity Breakfast on May 6, at 7:15 AM at Amarante’s Sea Cliff.

Burrell served as an assistant under Yale football head coach Carm Cozza and assisted numerous Bulldog baseball mentors for parts of three decades. He currently works part-time for Yale Athletics as the liaison to the New Haven schools and helps assist with all programs that bring Yale coaches and student-athletes into the New Haven Community as part of the Thomas W. Ford ’42 Community Outreach Program.  He was also honored by the department of athletics in 2009 at the annual Yale Golf Classic.

Rich Marazzi, a local radio talk show host and Major League Baseball rules expert, is the master of ceremonies for the breakfast.

The Farnam Neighborhood House is a non-profit organization that serves families, teenagers and children from every neighborhood in New Haven and welcomes everyone from all surrounding towns.  The Farnam Neighborhood House is New Haven's oldest neighborhood center, tracing its roots to the "Settlement House" movement of the turn of the century. Through a rich and storied tradition of service and support for over 95 years, Farnam Neighborhood House has been a "home away from home" for thousands of individuals and families.
