Since 1994, the Yale Athletic Department has offered an extensive Internship Program, utilizing interns in every aspect of athletic administration. Yale Interns are considered valuable members of the athletic staff. Traditionally, positions are offered in the areas of Alumni Relations and Development, Compliance, Ticket Operations, Facility Operations, Marketing and Promotions, Sports Publicity, Physical Education & Fitness Center, Club Sports, and Varsity Sport Administration. Yale Interns are given the opportunity to learn a great deal about their specific area of interest while gaining valuable hands-on experience in the successful overall operation of a NCAA Division I athletic program.
"I could not have gotten the great opportunity I had at Brown University without taking the internship at Yale. It is always difficult after having a full time position such as I had to take an internship, however to gain the valuable experience of the Ivy League and Division I was well worth it. I am grateful for the opportunity Yale gave me to enhance my career."
Todd P. Phelps
"The experiences that I had and knowledge that I gained during my time as a Yale intern have certainly helped me to attain my current position and I believe will continue to help me in the future. The responsibilities which I was given were directly applicable to my interests and I had ownership of several of the projects that I worked on throughout the year. Not only did I learn a great deal about athletics marketing and development through managing projects such as football tailgating and alumni events, my professional development was aided by the interactions I had with others in the office, around campus and in the New Haven community. My internship at Yale was a great introduction to the practical day to day operations of a Division I intercollegiate athletics program."
Associate Athletic Director, Union College
Yale Marketing Intern 2005-06
"My experience as an intern at Yale exposed me to a wide range of areas with Athletic Administration; however, the most beneficial aspect of my experience was the fact that I had legitimate duties and responsibilities that were integral to the overall operation of an NCAA Division I athletics department. Even though I attended graduate school prior to my experience at Yale, it was my year at Yale that really gave me the practical tools to be an effective administrator. The interns at Yale are given the opportunity to lead and make decisions, which is crucial before taking the next step. Finally, the outstanding educational and cultural aspects of being at a place like Yale truly supplemented my work experience and helped me understand the role of intercollegiate athletics in higher education."
