NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 3 Yale coed sailing team will race in the Erwin Schell Trophy at Brown this coming weekend. The Schell Trophy is both the New England Championships and the qualifier for Atlantic Coast Championships. Another team of Bulldogs will also sail the Dave Perry Trophy at home.

The Erwin Schell Trophy is the district championship for the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association and rotates venues each year. The top eight finishers from the Schell will qualify for Atlantic Coast Championships hosted by King's Point Merchant Marine Academy Nov. 10-11. Atlantic Coast Championships are the culmination of the fall season for dinghies, making this weekend's performance at the Schell that much more important

The Bulldogs gained lots of valuable experience sailing at Brown this past weekend at the Hoyt Trophy. Finishing second in a fleet very similar to the one they will face this weekend, the Bulldogs are confident heading into the Schell. Starting in A division will be sophomore skipper Graham Landy and senior crew Heather May coming off their victory in A division at the Hoyt. Starting in B division is junior skipper Chris Segerblom with freshman crew Charlotte Belling. Senior skipper Cameron Cullman and crews junior Will Feldman, sophomore Katherine Gaumond and freshman Sanam Rastegar will also travel with the Bulldogs to Providence, ensuring that Yale will have optimal weight combinations for any possible wind condition.

At the McNay Family Sailing Center, Yale will host the Dave Perry Trophy. Skippers senior Emily Billing and junior Max Nickbarg with crews junior Amanda Salvesen and sophomore Sarah Smith will form the Yale team. The Bulldogs are confident going into the event, hoping to capitalize on their knowledge of the home waters. Many collegiate teams do not have the opportunity to practice in the big breeze and waves that Short Beach can provide, giving the Bulldogs a large speed advantage if those conditions present.

All racing will begin at 9:30 am on Saturday. Results can be found at http://scores.collegesailing.org/.
