NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 3 Yale coed sailing team will sail its third regatta of the season this coming weekend. The Bulldogs will travel to St. Mary's College of Maryland to compete in the St. Mary's Team Race. This will be the most competitive event the Bulldogs have sailed so far in the spring season.
The Bulldogs will be sending the same three skippers that have so successfully competed in the previous two team race regattas this spring. Senior Cameron Cullman, junior captain Chris Segerblom and sophomore Graham Landy will look to keep up their rapid rate of improvement that they have seen so far during the spring season.
However, the Bulldogs will again use different crew pairings than the past two team race regattas, showing the team's incredible depth. Senior Heather May, juniors Eugenia Custo Greig and women's captain Marlena Fauer, along with freshman Charlotte Belling have the possibility of sailing with any of the above skippers depending on wind conditions. Fauer has been a key skipper on the Yale women's sailing team, but this regatta will be her collegiate crewing debut.
Yale competed in the St. Mary's Team Race last season with disappointing results. Yale finished fifth at the competitive intersectional. After sailing well on Saturday, Yale struggled through the second day and failed to make the final four round robin. The Bulldogs will be looking to redeem themselves after last year's tough finish.
The forecast for this weekend looks promising for good racing conditions. Saturday is predicted to be sunny, with a high of 50 degrees and north winds from eight to 13 knots. Sunday will be partly cloudy, with a high of 54 degrees and a predicted southwesterly ranging from four to nine knots.
The Bulldogs had their first afternoon practice of the season this Tuesday, using the opportunity improve on mistakes made the past two regattas as well as practice with different crew combinations in preparation for the upcoming regatta.
All racing will begin at 9:00 a.m.. Follow results online at http://scores.collegesailing.org/
