NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale coed sailing's top team racers are hoping to defend their undefeated record at the 36th Lynne Marchiando Trophy this weekend at MIT, the final team race before next week's New England Team Race Championship. The Bulldogs will also compete at the Camel Team Race, held on the Thames River in New London, Conn.
Skippers seniors Ian Barrows and Mitchell Kiss, junior captain Malcolm Lamphere and sophomore Nic Baird, who led the Bulldogs to wins at both the Graham Hall Team Race and the Friis Trophy, will be sailing the Marchiando with crews seniors Amelia Dobronyi, Chandler Gregoire and freshman Graceann Nicolosi.
Missing from the regular team race group are senior All-American Honorable Mention crews Natalya Doris and Clara Robertson, who are taking time off from the coed team to sail with the women's team and catch up on schoolwork.
At Connecticut College, skippers junior Christopher Champa and sisters junior Casey Klingler and Chrissie Klingler will possibly sail with several crews throughout the weekend, depending on weather. Seniors Isabelle Rossi de Leon, Charles Skoda and Elizabeth Tokarz, juniors Patrick Buehler and Caroline Colwell and sophomore Kira Woods will be ready to jump in at any time.
A winter storm is expected to blow through New England on Friday night and last through Saturday evening, which may cause delays or cancellations at many of the regattas scheduled in the region. If the Camel Team Race is called off on Saturday, the weekend's line-up may change.
The Bulldogs were formally entered in a third regatta, the BU Trophy, but dropped early this week due to the expected adverse weather.
Racing begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Follow results at http://scores.collegesailing.org/s17/.
