NEW HAVEN, CONN. – The Bulldogs finished their last regular season events this weekend at several regattas across New England and New York. The Admiral's Cup at King's Point saw only one day of sailing, with lack of wind cutting the event short on Sunday. The Boston Dinghy Cup at MIT and the Morris Trophy at BU had a cross river breeze all weekend making things very shifty and difficult, but they raced until the cutoff time on both days. The Priddy Trophy in Fairfield had decent breeze on Saturday, the only day of racing.
A unique team of skippers junior Nic Baird and first year Nicholas Marwell sailed with crews senior Caroline Colwell and first year Sonia Lingos Utley sailed at the Admiral's Cup where they finished second overall, thirteen points behind the leader after only one day of racing. Baird and Lingos Utley dominated A division with twenty four points in ten races, nearly half that of the next team.
At the BDC skippers Malcolm Lamphere, Chrissie Klingler and Martin Tipton with crews Kira Woods, Becca Rose, Cate Mollerus and Mina Cezairli took eighth place overall, losing the tiebreaker with Harvard. Lamphere and Woods finished second in A division, sailing better than anyone after the first three races. Klingler, Rose and Mollerus sailed well all weekend, winning B division going into the last race, but just losing it to Bowdoin after scoring eleventh in the final race.
Finally, at the Priddy, a first year team of Jonathan Schwartz and Liviu Mosnoi sailed in Fairfield and finished sixth at one of the oldest trophies in college sailing.
The team will move on next week to the conference championship which serves as a qualifier for the national semifinals. This is their last event before the nationals so they are hoping to learn as much as they can about what they need to work on during post-season.
