  • No. 1 Bulldogs Win Friis Trophy

    The Yale sailing team won the Friis Trophy, finished second at the BU team race in Boston, and took 13th at the Vietor in New London last weekend.
  • No. 1 Bulldogs To Face Off Against Top New England Teams
    March 22, 2019
    This weekend, the Yale sailing team will finally test itself within its own conference. Their No. 1 ranked team will compete at Roger Williams for the Friis Trophy, while its strong second team will race at Boston University. In addition, a young team of two first years and two sophomores competes in a fleet race at the Coast Guard Academy.
  • Bulldogs Make National Statement at Graham Hall

    The Yale sailing team came off its spring break training in strong fashion, winning the Graham Hall against most of the nation’s top teams. The Elis took down No. 2 Georgetown handily in their highly anticipated first meeting of the season, winning the race in a 1-2-3 combination, and made a strong showing against several other strong teams, including No. 3 Hobart & William Smith Colleges and No. 6 Roger Williams University.  
  • Bulldogs Compete in Florida and Boston

    The Yale Sailing Team competed in two regattas this past weekend. Young groups raced against top teams at the Rudkin Team Race in Florida and at the Ice Breaker Fleet Race at Tufts, where they truly broke ice off the boats before sailing. While the team had tough events in both locations, they are still shaking the rust off and will be looking forward to spring break training next week. 
  • Spring Break Begins with Elis Heading in Different Directions

    The Yale Sailing Team will be represented at both the Rudkin Team Race Promotional and the annual Ice Breaker Fleet Race this weekend. The former will be held at Eckerd College in Tampa, Fla., while the latter will be sailed in much colder conditions at Tufts University in Middlesex County, Mass. Many of the top-ranked Bulldogs will also be in St. Petersburg to practice their team racing expertise with distinguished Yale sailing alumni.
  • No. 1 Bulldogs Win First Major Team Race Interconference

    The Yale sailing team entered the most events ever in its first full spring weekend of competition on March 1-3. A young team competed at its first team race regatta at the Hap Moore, while Yale’s second team took a shot at New England’s top competition at the Sharpe. Yale’s top team won the Bob Bavier in an exciting final race.  
  • No. 1 Bulldogs Have 3 Events This Weekend: Racing in South Carolina, Rhode Island and Connecticut

    The Yale Sailing Team will field nearly its entire roster at three regattas this weekend. The spring season’s first top-level regional team race event, the Bob Bavier, will be hosted in Charleston, South Carolina. In addition, NEISA hosts two competitive team race regattas, the Sharpe Trophy at Brown and the Hap Moore team race at the Coast Guard Academy.
  •  Bulldogs Have Success in Sunshine State

    The Bulldogs notched their first win of the season on Tampa Bay this weekend. They dominated the competition with a 13/2 record, a significant step ahead of the next best team, Eckerd College, who had a 10/5 record.
  • Bulldogs Travel to Florida for Spring Opener

    This weekend the Bulldogs open their spring season in the Sunshine State competing in the Mendelblatt Team Race at the University of Southern Florida. The sailors are excited to get back on the water and begin team racing.
  • Fall Academic All-Ivy Announced

    The Ivy League released its list of student-athletes selected for 2018-19 Academic All-Ivy honors in its fall sports today, and 10 Bulldogs were honored. The 10 were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with 3.0 or better cumulative grade point averages.
  • Baird Places Fourth at Nationals

    Yale sailor Nic Baird finished fourth at the singlehanded nationals hosted by Macatawa Bay Yacht Club on Lake Michigan last weekend.
  • Baird to Compete in National Championship

    Senior Nic Baird will represent the Bulldogs this weekend at the singlehanded national championship held on Lake Macatawa in Holland, Michigan. The event represents the end of the fall season, and Baird will be looking to finish off a solid season with a good result against tough competition.
  • Bulldogs Secure Conference Championship Win

    The Bulldogs won the conference championship this weekend, beating No. 13 Dartmouth and No. 5 Harvard while placing in the top three in both divisions. At Tufts, Yale’s first-years finished fifth, winning a tiebreaker against Harvard. On Long Island Sound, another group of Elis took third in racing for the Dave Perry Trophy.
  • Conference Championship Highlights Final Fall Events

    The Bulldogs finish their regular season this weekend with the conference championship held at Dartmouth. The first-years also sail this weekend at the first-year conference championship at Tufts, while the rest of the team competes for the Dave Perry Trophy at Yale.

    The Bulldogs dominated the showcase finals this weekend on the St. Mary’s river, winning by 30 points at the fall season’s most prestigious regatta. All 18 of the best teams in the country were competing, and Yale cleared ahead by a significant margin.

    The Bulldogs approach their big weekend of the season, competing in the showcase finals at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. The best teams from around the country compete at this regatta. Yale sailors will also compete in Boston and in Fairfield, Conn.
  • Yale Falls Short of Nationals

    The Bulldogs fell short of qualifying for the match race nationals, taking a 2-1 loss against Dartmouth, the eventual regatta winners, in the quarterfinals last weekend. They also finished ninth at the Captain Hurst Bowl and fifth at the Sacred Heart Invite.

    The Bulldogs came away with the win at the showcase semi-final hosted by Harvard this weekend, winning both divisions and leading second-place Georgetown by 26 points overall.

  • Bulldogs to Compete in First Interconference Regattas

    The Bulldogs are setting up for their first chance to meet teams from outside of NEISA this weekend at the first interconference regattas of the season. The Yale Sailing Teams take part in the Danmark, hosted by the Coast Guard Academy, and the Moody, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, while there will also be representation at MIT and Tufts for the Smith Trophy and Lark Invite, respectively.
  • Bulldogs Win Tiebreaker for 5th at Hoyt Trophy

    The Bulldogs have finished their last weekend of conference regattas. Points were close at the Hoyt Trophy Regatta, and the Elis came out on top of a tiebreaker, while a first-year team learned the ropes at Tufts, and the sophomores finished mid fleet at URI.

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Extremely light wind conditions throughout the weekend made for difficult sailing conditions for the Bulldogs at the NEISA Men's Singlehanded Championship and the Hatch Brown Memorial Trophy.

    The Bulldogs came away with a very successful start to the season last weekend. There were a mix of finishes including a tie for first at Coast Guard, securing a qualification spot for the match race conference championship.

  • Bulldog Sailors Will See New Fall Schedule Format
    August 18, 2018
    The new coed sailing schedule has been released. The schedule is a massive rework compared to previous fall schedules, featuring fewer weekends of competition and fewer events. Last season, each weekend had a major interconference regatta with a few national qualifiers spread out through the season, and then concluded with the Atlantic Coast Championship (ACCs). This year there will be no ACCs.
