Incoming Class of 2022 Coed Sailors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale coed sailing team welcomes nine members of the Class of 2022 in preparation for the 2018-2019 season. The new sailors will help to offset the loss of seven graduating seniors who served many vital roles on the team, including staring skippers, starting crews and versatile heavy-wind sailors. The incoming class represents a widespread range of sailing backgrounds and will be focusing primarily on adapting to college style 420 and FJ racing in the coming months. 

Here are some more details about each new member of the team:

 

Anisha Arcot

Hometown: West Linn, Ore.

High School: West Linn High School

Highlights before Yale: Captain of varsity vailing team, Ida Lewis 2017, Bernis 2018.

Personal: I love horror movies but I spend most of the time with my eyes closed.

Favorite parts of Yale: "Meeting unique, talented people and faculty from around the globe! In regards to the sailing team im looking forward to having a friendly community to spend time with and learn from."

 

Christophe Chaumont

Hometown: Fort Worth, Texas

High School: All Saints' Episcopal School

Highlights before Yale: 4th 2016 Rose Cup, 2018 Rose Cup, 2017 I420 Youth Champs, 31st 2016 C420 Hyannis.

Personal: I like wake surfing and skiing.

Favorite parts of Yale: "I love the campus and the people. What I like about Yale sailing is that it's a very talented team that helps everyone get better and succeed."

 

Alexandra Contomichalos

Hometown: Athens, Greece

High School: St Paul's School

Highlights before Yale: Sailed a 3 day race on IODS

Personal: I have a twin brother!

Favorite parts of Yale: "The people and the classes. I'm excited to sail out of Branford, CT and meet everyone on the team."

 

Sophia Durney

Hometown: Berkeley, Calif.

 

Meredith Ryan

Hometown: Buffalo, N.Y.

High School: Nichols

Highlights before Yale: Captain of varsity sailing team, 1st Lightning Junior North Americans, 1st Lightning Youth Worlds, 2nd Lightning North Americans

Personal: I am in the process of perfecting my latte art...but I don't drink coffee.

Favorite parts of Yale: "The opportunity to learn from such talented people who are passionate about what they do. The team is extremely welcoming, and I can't wait to have a second family when I arrive on campus."

 

Katherine Skoda

Hometown: Brentwood, Tenn.

High School: Brentwood High School

Personal: I like hiking, coffee talks, and hanging with friends. 

Favorite parts of Yale: "The people and the architecture. I've never met a more accepting and fun-loving team, and I am so excited to be a part of such a wonderful group of people."

 

Sam Tobin

Hometown: Ridgefield, Conn.

High School: Phillips Academy Andover

Highlights before Yale: Opti/420/Radial JSA Championships, Bermuda Race, 1st Vineyard Race, year-long sailing trip with family across the globe.

Personal: I can run a mile in 4 minutes and 25 seconds.

Favorite parts of Yale: "Gaining new friends and working alongside and learning from so many excellent sailors."

 

Helena Ware

Hometown: Baltimore, Md.

High School: Friends School of Baltimore

Highlights before Yale: Baltimore County Sailing Center high school race team.

Personal: I have moved five times, not including moving into college.

Favorite parts of Yale: "The residential college system and being constantly surrounded by motivated, successful, and dedicated people. Im excited to be a part of the sailing community and getting to learn from incredible sailors and coaches."

 

Catherine Webb

 

Hometown: Newport Beach, Calif.

High School: Corona del Mar High School

Highlights before Yale: Baltimore County Sailing Center high school race team.

Personal:  I'm a member of the Cherokee Nation!

Favorite parts of Yale: "The beautiful campus and spending time with incredibley smart and talented people. Also getting close with all the team members and growing as a sailor."
