The Yale Sailing Team will field nearly its entire roster at three regattas this weekend. The spring season’s first top-level regional team race event, the Bob Bavier, will be hosted in Charleston, South Carolina. In addition, NEISA hosts two competitive team race regattas, the Sharpe Trophy at Brown and the Hap Moore team race at the Coast Guard Academy.
Bob Bavier - Charleston
Hap Moore Team Race
The Bulldogs will be missing one of their best crews, Graceann Nicolosi, in Charleston due to a minor injury. Her normal partners, Harvey and Baird, will miss her veteran team racing experience, but it will be a good opportunity for the team to show its depth in the crewing position.
The Sharpe and Hap Moore team races have a chance of being cancelled due to extreme weather conditions. The forecast shows snow on Saturday and temperatures in the low 30s, but with moderate wind speeds.
In Charleston, the weather forecast calls for a beautiful 8-15 knot wind speed range with temperatures in the mid 60s.
The Bob Bavier is the first major team race event of the season, and will be a good indicator of the accuracy of the pre-season rankings, which Yale sits atop of currently.
Racing will begin at 9:00am on Saturday and can be followed live at https://collegesailing.org/
