THE JUNIOR SAILING PROGRAM is offered to students aged 9-18 in two 4-week sessions. All students must be age 9 by July 1st, 2015. Classes meet for 3 hours each day, Monday through Friday. YCYC offers four levels of lessons:  Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Racing Team. Pricing is as follows:

o  One 4-wk Session $495 (June 15-July 10) or (July 13- August 7)

o  Both 4-wk Sessions $800 (June 15-August 7)

o  Short Beach Residents and Yale full time students/employees receive a 25% discount!  Just enter the discount code YALE1 at registration and bring proof of residency/employment/enrollment to your first day of class!

Total availability for all classes is limited due to the size of our facility.  Spots will be filled on a first come first serve basis.  Please also note that the two session pricing discount only applies if one camper is participating in both sessions (not if one family purchases one session each for two different campers!)

Because some schools don't get out in time for the first week of the first session, a THIRD OPTION is available:

1) Sign up for the first session of camp

2) Come to the last three weeks of the first session.

3) Come to the first week of the second session at no extra charge!

We will have special activities for these crossover campers during the first week of the second session- don't worry about having to go back over the basics!

Morning Camper Dropoff Information:

In order to streamline our morning drop-off process, we will be using a new approach this summer.  When you arrive to drop off your camper in the morning, please turn left onto Rockland Park (into our parking area).  Instead of parking in the painted spots, proceed to the entry of the boat storage lot, turn left, and enter the lot.  Instructors will be waiting for your camper and designate a dropoff area.  Stop and drop off your camper.  Drive forward, leaving the boat shed to your left.  To exit the area, please drive through our lower lot and turn right onto Clark Avenue.  Please remember to drive slowly as you arrive and depart the facility as there are many children in the area.
Below is an image of the intended drop-off traffic flow.  Please note that, unlike in the picture, there will be no boats in the lower lot.

Opti/420 Beginner

o Monday-Friday, 9am-12pm

Offered for children with no prior sailing experience. This class emphasizes safety and teaches basic sailing skills including knowledge of parts of the boat, rigging, launching, basic sailing, water safety and confidence in handling all points of sail.  This year, we are incorporating Opti's into our instructional fleet, which will provide smaller sailors with a more appropriately sized boat to experiment with solo sailing.  Our beginner class is supported by a staff of Junior Instructors, so there is plenty of supervision and one-on-one instruction.

420 Intermediate

o Monday-Friday 9am-12pm

Teaches improved boat handling to campers already knowledgeable in basic sailing skills, and provides an introduction to racing. The curriculum is an extension of the Beginner class with an emphasis upon independence in rigging, skippering, and boating safety.

420 Advanced

o Monday thru Friday, 1pm - 4pm

Intended for older students already proficient in saiilng in most weather conditions.  Instruction emphasizes advanced boat handling like roll-tacking/jibing and the finer aspects of sail trim.  This class is particularly suited to aspiring racers and experienced summer sailors.

420 Racing Team

o Monday thru Friday, 1pm - 4pm

The Racing Team continues the racing instruction begun in the advanced class and covers advanced tactics and strategy, starting, sail trim, sail shape, boat setup, and advanced boat handling through practices run by our racing coach. The racing team will participate in junior racing clinics and will enter and compete in local regattas against other yacht clubs.
