No. 3 Bulldogs to Compete at the Hood Trophy at Tufts

Sept. 26, 2008

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The No. 3 Bulldog sailors will compete across New England on Saturday and Sunday at a variety of venues featuring shifty winds. The Bulldogs will compete at Tufts in the Hood Trophy, at the 11th Chris Loder Trophy at New Hampshire and at two events hosted by Boston College.

The Hood Trophy was one strong part of the Bulldog's fall 2007 season. The Bulldogs placed third behind host Tufts in first and Boston College in second. Junior Thomas Barrows led the way in 2007 with a strong second-place finish in A Division while junior John Kempton contributed a sixth-place finish in B Division.

Competing at Tufts is a unique experience. The sailors will race in Larks, a double handed boat that is primarily only raced in regattas hosted by Tufts. As well, the Mystic Lake venue is known for extremely shifty winds that are very hard to predict. As a result, a main focus during the regatta will be on simply sailing consistently. Junior Thomas Barrows will again lead the Bulldogs in A Division while freshman Joseph Morris will skipper for the Bulldogs in B Division.

The Bulldogs will also compete at the 11th Loder Trophy at New Hampshire's Endum Pond venue. The Bulldogs finished in sixth at the event in 2007, behind a second-place finish in A Division. The Bulldogs placed 10th in B Division. In 2006, the Bulldogs put in a strong performance for a second-place finish. The sailors will sail FJs at the historically light and shifty Endum Pond venue. Freshmen Cameron Cullman and senior Caleb Dorfman will skipper for the Bulldogs at the event.

The Bulldogs will also send a squad to compete at the Team Racing Series On event on Saturday and an Invite on Sunday, both of which will be held at Boston College. The Boston College venue is known as an open water venue that can feature waves and strong wind like the Bulldogs home site. Sophomore Andrew Kurzrok and freshmen Rob Struckett and Genoa Warner will skipper for the Bulldogs.
