    Rallis Sets Doubles Mark, Yale Splits Twinbill with Harvard The Yale baseball team nearly completed an historic comeback at Yale Field on Wednesday, falling behind 13-0 to perennial rival Harvard before storming back to within two runs in game one of an Ivy League doubleheader. Though the Bulldogs were eventually clipped, 14-12, in the opening game, the Elis continued their hot-hitting in the nightcap, salvaging a split with an 8-3 win. Junior designated hitter Trey Rallis went 4-for-7 in the twinbill, hitting two doubles in game one to break the Yale single-season record for two-baggers with 18. Rallis tops the 17 doubles hit by Ryan Lavarnway, who is currently playing in the Red Sox organization, in the 2007 season. Additionally, senior first baseman Trygg Larsson-Danforth hit a pair of home runs to become the sixth Yale player to hit 10 or more roundtrippers in a season. Lavarnway holds that record as well, hitting 14 home runs in that same 2007 campaign.

    Holy Cross Outslugs Bulldogs, 11-9, in Non-Conference Clash Since scoring just nine runs in a four-game skid at Dartmouth two weeks ago, the Yale baseball team has come alive at the plate. The Bulldogs came into Tuesday’s non-conference finale against Holy Cross having scored 37 runs in their last three contests. Yale continued to produce offensively against the Crusaders, tallying nine runs in the nine-inning contest, but the visitors matched the Bulldogs swing-for-swing in the midweek game en route to an 11-9 victory. Freshman centerfielder Cam Squires went 3-for-5 with an RBI out of the lead-off spot for the Bulldogs, while senior first baseman Trygg Larsson-Danforth extended his hitting streak to 17 games with two RBI singles.

    Elis Pound Harvard to Earn Doubleheader Split After a late rally fell short in game one of Saturday’s Ivy League doubleheader against Harvard, the Yale baseball team ensured that another comeback bid would not be necessary in the nightcap with the Crimson. The Bulldogs posted seven runs in the first inning and led by a score of 13-0 after four frames en route to a 15-1 victory. Nine different Bulldogs had hits in the rout, led by a 3-for-3 showing by junior designated hitter Trey Rallis and a 4-for-5 performance from sophomore shortstop Matt Schmidt. Junior left-hander Vinny Lally did more than enough to make the huge lead hold up, carrying a no-hit bid into the sixth inning and earning his team-best sixth victory of the season. Harvard held off the Bulldogs for a 7-4 win in the seven-inning first game.
