Yale CF Hanson Named Ivy Rookie of the Week
Off To Stellar Start After Going 5-for-8 During Opening Weekend
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Despite two losses by the Yale University baseball team in its first two games at the 2011 RussMatt Invitational, freshman center fielder Cale Hanson proved to be impressive in the first weekend of his Yale career.
Hanson tallied five hits in his first eight at-bats in the losses to Lehigh on Saturday and Xavier on Sunday in Yale's first two games at the RussMatt Invitational. Because of his performance in the two games, the Ivy League announced Tuesday that it awarded Hanson with its first Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
Against Lehigh in the season opener on Saturday, Hanson went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a game that Yale led 6-1 before Lehigh rallied late to steal the victory.
In a tough loss to Xavier on Sunday, Hanson went 3-for-4 with a run scored. He was 1-for-2 with runners on base and also recorded two outs while manning center field.
Yale (2-3) returns to action on Thursday for a doubleheader against Bowling Green.
