Bulldogs' Quest for Third-Straight City Series Crown Highlights 2012 Fall Schedule
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Yale University baseball team will once again host the New Haven City Series in a set of games that highlights a fall schedule that includes four games for the 2012-13 squad.
The City Series will see the baseball teams from Yale, Southern Connecticut, Quinnipiac and the University of New Haven square off on Oct. 12 and 13 in a battle for bragging rights. Yale will host the four-game set at historic Yale Field. Quinnipiac and Southern Connecticut will open the series on Oct. 12 at 3:30 p.m., while Yale will meet New Haven at 7 p.m. The losing teams will square off in the consolation game on Oct. 13 at 12 p.m., while the winning teams will meet for the City Series Championship at 3:30 p.m.
Yale enters the fall season in search of its third consecutive City Series crown. Behind the stellar play of Josh Scharff, one of four seniors on the 2012-13 squad, the Bulldogs blanked Southern Connecticut in the opening game of the 2011 City Series, 5-0 on Oct. 15, and then defeated UNH, 7-3 on Oct. 16, to earn the 2011 City Series crown. Scharff went 4-for-8 in the series with a home run, five runs batted in and two runs scored to earn the Series MVP award.
Another highlight of the fall schedule is the Yale Baseball Alumni Game, which is scheduled to be played on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs will welcome back two squads of alumni who will play against each other while reliving some fond memories at Yale Field.
The 2012 Fall Schedule opens with the Blue-White Fall Classic, an intrasquad scrimmage scheduled for Sept. 22 at 12 p.m. The Bulldogs will see their first opponent of the fall when they welcome Fairfield University to Yale Field for Scout Day on Sept. 29 at 12 p.m.
