  • Pirates Promote Pat Ludwig ’12 to Double-A
    June 18, 2014
    Right-handed pitcher Pat Ludwig ’12 has been promoted to Double-A Altoona by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ludwig, who began the season at Single-A Bradenton, made his Double-A debut this past Saturday.
  • Hanson Earns All-Ivy First-Team Honors

    Senior captain Cale Hanson was named to the All-Ivy First Team Friday, as five Yale players in total received honors. Hanson was named to the First Team as a shortstop, and also named to the Second Team as a relief pitcher. Sophomore pitcher Chris Lanham and freshman utility player Richard Slenker joined Hanson on the Second Team. Finally, sophomore reliever Chris Moates and junior catcher Robert Baldwin received Honorable Mention nods.
  • Nine Players Honored with Team Awards

    The Yale baseball team held its year-end banquet on Tuesday, honoring nine players with team awards. Senior shortstop/right-handed pitcher Cale Hanson (Katy, Texas), the team’s captain, earned a pair of honors, including the George H. Walker, Jr. '27 Award as most valuable player -- an award that he shared with junior catcher Robert Baldwin (Austin, Texas) and sophomore right-handed pitcher Chris Lanham (Houston, Texas). Hanson also won the Paul Sortal Award, which is given to the player who maximizes his ability to the fullest.
  • Yale Comes Up Short in Tiebreak Despite Toups' Hitting

    Yale took an early lead, but couldn’t weather a seven-run rally from Dartmouth in the third inning to lose 11-4 in the one-game divisional tiebreak. David Toups went 2-4 with two RBIs and a run in the loss. With the win, Dartmouth is the Red Rolfe Champion and will play Columbia next weekend for the Ivy League Championship.

    Sunday at noon, Yale has the chance to top Dartmouth for the Red Rolfe title for the first time in nearly 20 years. The squads each finished with 11-9 Ivy League records, prompting the one-game playoff.

  • Final Series Pushed Back One Day

    Due to rain, Saturday's baseball doubleheader against Brown at Yale Field is moved to Sunday at 1:00 P.M. EDT. Yale will still be the home team, and Senior Day will be Sunday. The schedule change comes as Dartmouth and Harvard's weekend series is postponed as well (to Tuesday). Now, a Red Rolfe champion won't be determined until at least Tuesday.
  • Brown Takes Friday Pair As Race Heats Up

    Yale (17-21, 9-9 Ivy) dropped two games to Brown (12-20, 6-12) Friday, and with them the sole control of the Red Rolfe Division. With the losses, Yale sits one game ahead of Dartmouth in the standings. However, with only two games remaining for Yale (and four for Dartmouth), a Saturday sweep would not necessarily guarantee Yale the Red Rolfe crown. A Dartmouth sweep would give the Big Green at least a one-game playoff with Yale for the title, if each wins out.
  • Yale Looks to Punch Playoff Ticket Against Brown

    With just one weekend remaining, Yale (17-19, 9-7 Ivy) controls its own playoff destiny in a four-game series against Brown (10-20, 4-12). Three wins on the weekend would ensure Yale’s spot at the top of the Red Rolfe Division, as it sits two games ahead of Dartmouth (which has four remaining games against Harvard).
  • Lanham Earns Record-Setting Third Pitcher of the Week Award

    Chris Lanham became the first player in Yale history to win three Pitcher of the Week honors in a season, thanks to yet another outstanding performance from him against Harvard.

    Yale (17-19, 9-7 Ivy) walked Harvard (10-24, 5-11) off in back-to-back extra inning games Sunday, winning by scores of 1-0 and 7-6. Chris Lanham and Nate Adams had huge days that put the Bulldogs in the pole position of the Red Rolfe Division race. Both games were tight the whole way through – 30 of the 36 half-innings began in a tie.
  • Yale Extends Division Lead With Harvard Split

    Yale (15-19, 7-7 Ivy) picked up a key win in a doubleheader against Harvard (10-22, 5-9) on Saturday, extending its Red Rolfe lead to two games. Eric Hsieh went 3-for-4 with two walks, two runs, and three RBIs between both games.
