NEW HAVEN, Conn. - After pitching eight shutout innings this past week, including falling just two outs shy of a perfect game on Saturday at Princeton, sophomore left-hander Vinny Lally has been named the Ivy League Pitcher of the Week. Lally was 1-0 last week with nine strikeouts, one walk and just two hits allowed.
In Saturday's gem in the Garden State, the southpaw retired the first 19 Tigers he faced in the seven-inning affair. He finished the contest with nine strikeouts, one hit allowed and no walks issued in a complete game shutout victory. Earlier in the week, he threw a scoreless first inning in a non-league home game against Connecticut. Opponents hit a mere .077 against Lally in his eight innings of work.
In his last three starts, Lally is 2-0 with a 1.38 earned run average, registering 14 strikeouts in 13.0 innings.
