Yale Captain Led Ivy League In Free Throw Percentage Last Year
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Alex Zampier, who led the Ivy League in free throw percentage (.848) and was eighth in scoring (13.2 ppg.) last year, has been selected to the 2009 Pre-Season All-Connecticut 6 team. The six players on the team were chosen by the head coaches of the Connecticut 6 schools - Central Connecticut, Fairfield, Hartford, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart and Yale.
Zampier, the Yale captain, enters his senior season needing 360 points to reach 1,000 in his career. He earned honorable mention All-Ivy League honors last year. His .848 free throw percentage was the fourth best in a season in school history, and he led the team with 42 three-pointers and was second in scoring.
Joining Zampier on the team is Central Connecticut's Shemik Thompson, Fairfield's Anthony Johnson, Hartford's Joe Zeglinski, Justin Rutty of Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart's Corey Hassan.
Fans will be able to see all of these student-athletes in action this Friday, November 13 as the inaugural Connecticut 6 Classic takes place at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport. The triple header begins with Sacred Heart and Yale playing at 5:30 pm, followed by Fairfield battling Central Connecticut at 7:30 pm. The night finishes up with Quinnipiac taking on Hartford at 9:30 p.m.
