Greg Mangano ’12 has found a home to begin his professional basketball career. Mangano, a two-time first team All-Ivy selection at Yale, signed with Antalya of the Beko Turkish League.

Four Bulldogs Named To NABC Honors Court
Four Yale players – Reggie Willhite, Sam Martin, Austin Morgan and Brian Katz – were honored for their work in the classroom this past season. All four were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court, which recognizes those collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2011-12 season.

Mangano, Willhite Await Professional Opportunities
The last few weeks have been a whirlwind for Greg Mangano ‘12. He has crisscrossed the country, trying to impress NBA general managers, coaches and scouts. The last stop was Tuesday in Memphis for a work out with the Grizzlies. Now the waiting begins. The NBA Draft is Thursday night and Mangano is considered a possible second round selection.

The Ivy League, NBC Sports Group Renew National Television Agreement
The Ivy League and the NBC Sports Group announced a two-year renewal of their national television rights agreement today that includes an increase in football games, and the first-ever rights for the NBC Sports Network to televise men's basketball and men's lacrosse games.

Mangano started at forward, played 21 minutes and was 4-of-9 from the field.

Greg Mangano turned in another solid performance at the Portsmouth Invitational, scoring a team-high 13 points and grabbing nine rebounds in Cherry Bekart & Holland’s 76-74 loss to the Portsmouth Sports Club. Mangano started at forward and played 26 minutes. He was 5-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range.

Bulldogs Fall 68-56 At Fairfield In CIT Opening Round
At halftime of its opening round CollegeInsider.com Tournament game with Fairfield, it looked like the Yale men’s basketball team was poised to make a deep run in the tournament. The Bulldogs were running on all cylinders and had a 39-26 lead. The momentum, though, turned in a big way in the second half. The Stags picked up their defensive intensity and rallied for a 68-56 victory before a Webster Bank Arena crowd of 1,744 that included a nice Yale contingent.

Willhite Named Ivy League Defensive Player Of Year; Mangano First Team Selection
Two seniors who have helped the Yale men’s basketball team to its most overall wins in a decade have been honored by the Ivy League. Greg Mangano, who leads the league in rebounding (9.7 rpg.) and blocks (64) and is second in scoring (18.2 ppg.), earned first team All-Ivy recognition for the second straight year, while Reggie Willhite, who leads the league with a single-season school record 63 steals, was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year. Willhite also was a second team All-Ivy selection.

Bulldogs Fall At Penn In Regular Season Finale
Defense has been a big reason why Penn is still in the hunt for the Ivy League title. Yale got to witness that first hand Saturday at the Palestra. The Quakers held the Bulldogs to 27.5 percent shooting from the field en route to a 68-47 victory before an enthusiastic crowd of 4,962.

Ivy Title Hopes Dashed With 64-57 Loss At Princeton
Yale has made a habit of coming from behind all season. So when the Bulldogs rallied from an early 15-point deficit to tie Princeton at 40 with 12 minutes left, there was every reason to believe Yale was going to walk out of Jadwin Gym with another win. Instead, it was the Tigers that made the plays down the stretch, and the result was a 64-57 Princeton victory before a crowd of 2,293.

Yale’s Ivy Title Hopes Still Alive Entering Final Weekend
The Bulldogs (19-7, 9-3 Ivy) enter the final weekend of the regular season still very much alive in the race for the Ivy League title. Yale trails first-place Harvard (10-2) by one game and second place Penn (9-2) by a half game. With Princeton (7-4) also still in the mix, there are numerous scenarios in play. This much is certain. The Bulldogs must win at least one game to have any chance to still be alive come Sunday. The Bulldogs start the weekend Friday at Princeton and then have a Saturday date with Penn. Both games tip off at 7 p.m.

The final home weekend of the regular season brings visits from Columbia and Cornell to the John J. Lee Amphitheater. Quick Start Leads Harvard Past Yale
This time, the hole Yale dug itself was just a little too deep to get out of. One week after rallying from a 21-point deficit against Columbia to win, the Bulldogs found themselves down 20 to Harvard midway through the first half. Yale fought back again, pulling within four with 14 minutes left, but the Crimson used a late push to escape with a 66-51 victory before a packed house of 2,195 at Lavietes Pavilion.

The Bulldogs (16-6, 6-2 Ivy) are coming off an unforgettable 59-58 victory at Columbia last Saturday. Yale, which has won four of its last five games, rallied from a 21-point deficit with 11:30 left in the second half. The significance of that victory will only grow in the annals of Yale history if the Bulldogs keep winning. Yale enters the weekend in second place in the Ivy League, one game behind Harvard. Johnathan Gray scored seven of his career-high 29 points in overtime to lift Cornell to an 85-84 victory over Yale before a crowd of 1,876 at Newman Arena. Chris Wroblewski added 18 points and 10 assists for the Big Red.

Mangano Earns A Pair Of Weekly Honors
Greg Mangano had another big week for the Yale men’s basketball team, and it has resulted in a pair of honors for the 6-10 center. Mangano, who averaged 21.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in Yale’s weekend sweep of Penn and Princeton, earned Ivy League and CollegeSportsMadness National Mid-Major Player of the Week honors.

Despite playing very well for the first 30 minutes, Yale found itself in a dogfight late in Saturday’s game with Princeton. Yale All-Access coverage of men’s basketball begins Thursday night with the Bulldogs’ home opener vs. Lyndon State (7 p.m.). The Yale Athletics Department has partnered with Stretch Internet for the third straight season to provide live video streams of home games on yalebulldogs.com.

Bulldogs Cruise In Home Opener
Yale’s home opener went just as James Jones, The Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of Men’s Basketball, hoped it would. Fifteen players scored and the 16 players that dressed each saw at least 10 minutes of action as the Bulldogs cruised to a 101-37 victory over Lyndon State at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.

Bulldogs Make Short Trip To Quinnipiac Tuesday
The Bulldogs (1-0) opened the season with an impressive 73-69 victory over Central Connecticut on Friday at the Connecticut 6 Classic. They'll be looking for the second straight win over a Northeast Conference foe when they head to Hamden to meet Quinnipiac on Tuesday. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.at the TD Bank Sports Center, and the game will be televised on SNY.

Yale Drops Hard-Fought 68-62 Decision At Quinnipiac
The faces may change for the Quinnipiac men’s basketball team, but the style of play certainly doesn’t. The Bobcats, who have eight new players, continue to play a relentless, in-your-face defense, and it helped lead to a hard-fought 68-62 victory over Yale before a big crowd of 2,744 at the TD Bank Sports Center.

Mangano Named Ivy League Player Of Week
Greg Mangano picked up right where he left off last season by scoring 23 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking two shots as Yale opened the season with an impressive 73-69 victory over Central Connecticut on Friday at the Connecticut 6 Classic. That performance earned him Ivy League Player of the Week honors. He shared the honor with Penn’s Zack Rosen, who tallied 26 points in the Quakers’ victory over UMBC.

A quick start to the second half went a long way in helping the Yale men’s basketball team open the season on a positive note. The Bulldogs used a 16-1 run over the first six minutes to build a 46-35 lead and went on to a 73-69 victory over Central Connecticut at the Connecticut 6 Classic at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Yale was picked second this year, so if that trend continues it will be a memorable season for the Bulldogs, who kick off the 2011-12 campaign on Friday against Central Connecticut in the third game of the Connecticut 6 Classic at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville.

The Connecticut 6 breakfast, originally scheduled for Tuesday, November 1, has been postponed until Tuesday, November 8 at the Hartford Marriott Downtown. The postponed is a result of last weekend's snow storm which created complications and travel issues for the northern part of Connecticut.

Official Practice Set To Begin As Bulldogs Prepare For 2011-12 Season
The Yale men’s basketball team got a bit of a head start on the 2011-12 season. The Bulldogs spent 10 days in China last May and played four games. The trip allowed the Bulldogs to bond as a team and work on some things for the upcoming season. That experience, along with the return of four starters, 10 players who averaged at least seven minutes and the addition of a talented freshman class should make Yale a serious contender for the Ivy League title. Vancisin Honored At Halftime Of Saturday’s Football Game With Dartmouth
Joe Vancisin, Yale's all-time winningest men's basketball coach, was honored at halftime of Saturday’s football game with Dartmouth. Vancisin, who guided the Bulldogs for 19 seasons and won three Ivy League titles, will be inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame on November 20 in Kansas City.

CT6 Tipoff Breakfast Set For Nov. 1 In Hartford
The 2011 Connecticut 6 Tip-Off Breakfast will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the Hartford Marriott Downtown. The event, which is open to the public, kicks-off at 7:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast followed by a 30-minute panel discussion beginning at 8:00 a.m. The panel features all six men’s basketball head coaches from the participating schools, including John Gallagher (Hartford), Howie Dickenman (CCSU), first-year head coach Sydney Johnson (Fairfield), Tom Moore (Quinnipiac), Dave Bike (Sacred Heart) and James Jones (Yale).

Jamie Snyder-Fair, who has spent the last two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at Yale, has been promoted to full-time assistant coach. Rising senior Greg Mangano and Team USA made it through the preliminary round of the World University Games with a perfect 5-0 record. The team, though, will need to increase that winning streak to eight to come home with the gold medal. The United States faces Lithuania on Saturday in the quarterfinals. The semifinals are Sunday and the championship is set for Monday.

Israel Edges Finland 65-64 At U20 European Championships; Kreisberg Scores 15 Points To Lead Way
Rising sophomore Jeremiah Kreisberg continued his strong play at the Under-20 European Championships on Thursday. Kreisberg scored a team-high 15 points to lead Israel to a 65-64 victory over Finland in the classification round. In 28 minutes, Kreisberg was 6-of-11 from the field, 3-of-4 from the free throw line, grabbed two rebounds and had two assists.

Trip To Florida, 12 Home Dates Highlight 2011-12 Schedule
Eight games against teams that played in the post season last year highlight the 2011-12 Yale men’s basketball schedule. In all, the Bulldogs will play 28 games – 12 at home in the friendly confines of the John J. Lee Amphitheater, 15 on the road and one at a neutral site. The biggest challenge figures to come on New Year’s Eve at Florida. The Gators are ranked in most of the preseason top-25 polls and lost to Butler in the Elite Eight last season.
