Mangano Signs With Professional Team In Turkey
Will Join Antalya of the Beko Turkish Basketball League
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Greg Mangano '12 has found a home to begin his professional basketball career. Mangano, a two-time first team All-Ivy selection at Yale, signed with Antalya of the Beko Turkish League.
Antalya is a city on the Mediterranean coast of southwestern Turkey.
Mangano, who worked out for several NBA teams prior to the league's draft on June 27, is Yale's all-time leader with 213 career blocked shots, which is third in Ivy League history. He finished his career with 735 career rebounds, the sixth most in school history, and 1,213 career points, which is 13th.
Mangano is one of only seven multiple first team All-Ivy picks in school history and the first since Paul Maley (1987-88). He led the Ivy League in both rebounding and blocks as both a junior and senior. Following his junior season, he was selected to play for Team USA at the 2011 World University Games in China. As a senior last winter, he averaged 18.2 points and 9.7 rebounds.
Mangano joins a long list of players that have signed professional contracts during James Jones' tenure as the head coach at Yale. Ted Smith (England), Matt Minoff (Israel), Paul Vitelli (Italy), Dominick Martin (Spain), Matt Kyle (Portugal), Caleb Holmes (Iceland), Ross Morin (Switzerland), Eric Flato (England) and Edwin Draughan (France) have all played overseas.
