Three Bulldogs Named To NABC Honors Court
Sam Martin, Austin Morgan and Jeremiah Kreisberg all were regular contributors to the Yale men’s basketball team last winter. The three also were quite successful in the classroom, and as a result, have been named to the 2012-13 Honors Court by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

Yale Well Represented At New England Basketball Hall of Fame Ceremony
The illustrious history of New England basketball was celebrated Saturday night in Worcester, Mass., at the 2013 New England Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Yale was well represented as five former Bulldogs were honored. Chris Dudley ’87, Frank Maturo ’80, Dick Shea ’79, Mark Yellin ’55 and Sam Kaplan ’07 were all inducted as Scholar Athletes.

Four Bulldogs Volunteer At New Haven’s Celentano School
The last few weeks of the spring semester provided a learning experience outside of Yale’s classrooms for four members of the men’s basketball team. Greg Kelley, Sam Martin, Justin Sears and Brandon Sherrod spent time volunteering at New Haven’s Celentano School. The four worked primarily on literacy projects with a kindergarten class.

The 2012-13 Yale men’s basketball team gathered for one final time for the annual post-season banquet last Wednesday night at the Yale Golf Course. The Bulldogs celebrated the season and handed out the team awards.

Pritchard Elected 2013-14 Captain
Jesse Pritchard, who was introduced as the captain of the 2013-14 Yale men’s basketball team at the postseason banquet on Wednesday night, has a simple philosophy when it comes to leading the team. It’s the same philosophy he used when he served as a captain for his high school team back in Ames, Iowa.

Chris Dudley '87 To Be Inducted Into New England Basketball Hall Of Fame
Chris Dudley '87, a three-time first team All-Ivy selection at Yale who went on to play 16 seasons in the NBA, will be inducted into the Scholar-Athlete Category of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame on June 22.

Morgan Named Second Team All-Ivy
Senior Austin Morgan was the model of consistency during his career with the Yale men’s basketball team. That didn’t always result in individual recognition. Fortunately that has changed following another solid season. Morgan, who led the Bulldogs in scoring, has been named to the All-Ivy second team, the first time in his career he earned All-Ivy recognition.

The season ended in fitting fashion for the Yale men’s basketball team. Yale’s depth and balance was never more on display than in Saturday’s 79-65 victory over Penn in the season finale before 1,762 at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.

Princeton seems to bring out the best in the Yale offense. For the second time this season, the Bulldogs shot lights out in knocking off the Tigers 71-66 Friday at a raucous John J. Lee Amphitheater. Yale, which won 69-65 at Princeton in February, swept the season series from the Tigers for the first time since 2008.

Michael Grace, Sam Martin and Austin Morgan share a common bond. The three arrived together at Yale in 2009, and over the last four years have grown together, both on and off the basketball court. There have been good times and bad times, but the three have always stuck together.

Yale Athletics to Host Newtown Playground Fundraiser at Saturday’s Men’s Basketball Game
The Yale Athletics Department will host a raffle and silent auction this Saturday, Mar. 9, during the men’s basketball game vs. Penn. Tip-off is 7p.m. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated to the Newtown Park and Recreation’s Dickinson Memorial Playground Gift Fund in honor of the children of Sandy Hook.

Bulldogs Bounce Back With Big Win At Cornell
Yale’s offensive struggles lasted just one night. After shooting 31.1 percent from the field against Columbia on Friday, the Bulldogs responded in a big way. Yale executed near flawlessly in the first half Saturday against Cornell, built a 14-point lead and went on to an impressive 79-70 victory over the Big Red before 2,150 at Newman Arena.

Big Second Half Leads Columbia Past Yale
Columbia’s Maodo Lo entered Friday’s game with Yale averaging 5.4 points on the season. After 20 minutes, it didn’t appear that was going to change much. Lo, though, went off in the second half, scoring 16 of his career-high 20 points to lead the Lions to a 59-46 victory before 2,022 at Levien Gym.

Final Road Trip Has Yale In New York State Of Mind
The final road trip of the regular season takes the Bulldogs to New York. Yale travels to Columbia on Friday and is at Cornell on Saturday. Tipoff on both nights is set for 7 p.m. With two weekends left, the Bulldogs (11-16, 5-5 Ivy) sit in a tie with Cornell for third place in the Ivy League. Yale has placed fourth or better in league play in each of the last 12 years and is looking to finish with a winning league record for the third straight year and for the fifth time in the last seven years.

Harvard's Christian Webster made only three field goals in Saturday's game with Yale. Each one, though, sure was significant. The result was a hard-fought 72-66 victory for the Crimson before a very enthusiastic crowd of the 2,139 at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.

As they head down the home stretch of the regular season, the Bulldogs are playing perhaps their best basketball. Yale has won three of its last four games heading into a big home weekend. The Bulldogs host Dartmouth on Friday at 7 p.m. and Harvard on Saturday at 8 p.m. The game with the Crimson will be televised on the CBS Sports Network. Don Criqui will handle the play by play, while Alaa Abdelnaby provides analysis.

Once Yale figured out how to slow down Alex Mitola, it was smooth sailing Friday against Dartmouth. Mitola scored 17 of his career-high 27 points in the first half to keep the Big Green close. The Bulldogs, though, limited him to 10 in the second half and pulled away for a 78-67 victory before 1,207 at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.

After last weekend’s sweep of the Penn-Princeton road trip, Yale head coach James Jones thought his team would come out with a little pep in its step Friday against Cornell. Instead, it was the Big Red that got off to a quick start. That and poor foul shouting doomed the Bulldogs in a 68-61 loss before 1,173 at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.

Yale went to what it does best to earn an important Ivy League victory at Penn on Friday. The Bulldogs grabbed 21 offensive rebounds, turned them into 19 second-chance points and earned a hard-fought 68-59 win over the Quakers before 2,810 at the Palestra.

Townsend Scores Career-High 16 Points In Loss At Dartmouth
Yale saw first-hand last year that Dartmouth’s Gabas Maldunas was one of the top young players in the Ivy League when he scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a Bulldogs’ victory at Leede Arena. Maldunas wasn’t quite as effective on Saturday, but he got more help from his teammates as the Big Green knocked off Yale 71-62 before 1,007 at Leede.

Valiant Comeback Falls Short At Harvard
Yale did all the things it needed to in the second half of Friday’s game with Harvard. The Bulldogs tightened up defensively, slowed down the pace of the game and were aggressive on offense. Yale, though, had dug itself a little too much of a hole in the opening 20 minutes. The result was a hard-fought 67-64 loss to the Crimson before a full house of 2,195 at Lavietes Pavilion.

Two Bulldogs Earn Ivy League Awards
A big overtime win over Brown on Saturday helped a pair of Yale players earn weekly honors from the Ivy League. Austin Morgan, who scored seven of Yale’s 18 points in the extra period, was named the Ivy League Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Harvard’s Christian Webster. Justin Sears, who paced the Bulldogs with 18 points, was named the Rookie of Week. Sears shared the honor with Harvard’s Siyani Chambers.

Austin Morgan had a strong showing playing in front of numerous family and friends, and for awhile it looked like he might lead the Yale men’s basketball team to a big victory on Friday. Instead, Malik Story stole the spotlight. Story scored a career-high 35 points as Nevada held off the pesky Bulldogs to escape with an 85-75 victory before 7,226 at the Lawlor Events Center.

Road Trip Will Be Memorable For Three Bulldogs
Jesse Pritchard still remembers his visit with Yale head coach James Jones during the recruiting process. Pritchard had one request. He hoped the Bulldogs could play a game close to his home in Ames, Iowa. That will become a reality on New Year’s Day when Yale visits Iowa State. Hilton Coliseum, the Cyclones’ home court, is a five-minute bike ride from Pritchard’s house.

Freshman Justin Sears's put back in the final seconds provided the winning margin. The Bulldogs figure to be in another tight game on Saturday when they meet a New Hampshire team that has a victory over Dartmouth on its resume and gave UConn all it could handle before falling 61-53. Tipoff at UNH's Lundholm Gym is slated for 1 p.m.

After falling behind early, Yale seemed on the verge of a run several times in Saturday’s game at New Hampshire. The Wildcats, though, had an answer every time. Ferg Myrick was a big reason why. He scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Wildcats held off the Bulldogs 64-56 in a matinee at Lundholm Gym.

Reggie Willhite ‘12 Drafted In Fifth Round Of NBA D-League Draft
Reggie Willhite, the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year last year as a senior at Yale, was selected in the fifth round of the 2012 NBA Development League Draft on Friday night. Willhite was selected by the Reno Bighorns with the fifth pick in the fifth round. He was the 70th player chosen overall.

There will be a different look to the Yale men's basketball team in 2012-13. Last year, Greg Mangano and Reggie Willhite combined to take nearly half of the team's shots. James Jones, the Joel E. Two National Television Appearances On Tap For Bulldogs
Yale fans all across the country will have two opportunities to catch the Bulldogs this season thanks to the Ivy League television package. Yale’s home game with Florida on Sunday, Jan. 6 will be televised live on the NBC Sports Network at 5:30 p.m. A little more than a month later, on Saturday, Feb. 23, the CBS Sports Network will come to the historic John J. Lee Amphitheater for the Yale-Harvard game at 8 p.m.

Steve Leondis ’83 Inducted Into AHEPA Athletic Hall of Fame
Steve Leondis ’83, who is Yale’s fourth all-time leading scorer with 1,540 career points, was inducted into the American Hellenic Progressive Association Athletic Hall of Fame at the 90th AHEPA Supreme Convention in late July in Las Vegas, Nevada.
