Townsend Scores Career-High 16 Points In Loss At Dartmouth

Morgan Adds 20 Points For Yale

HANOVER, N.H. – Yale saw first-hand last year that Dartmouth's Gabas Maldunas was one of the top young players in the Ivy League when he scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a Bulldogs' victory at Leede Arena. Maldunas wasn't quite as effective on Saturday, but he got more help from his teammates as the Big Green knocked off Yale 71-62 before 1,007 at Leede.

Maldunas was 8-of-10 from the field to finish with 16 points and added eight rebounds to lead Dartmouth (5-13, 1-3 Ivy).

Yale got a career-high 16 points from Matt Townsend, but shot just 35 percent from the field. Austin Morgan added 20 points for the Bulldogs (7-14, 1-3 Ivy).

Yale trailed by 13, 39-26, with 13 minutes remaining but scored nine straight points to get right back in it. Dartmouth, though, answered with a 13-2 run to regain control.

The Bulldogs pulled back to within eight, 56-48, on a Townsend layup with 3:15 left but could get no closer the rest of the way.

The Big Green was 19-of-20 from the foul line in the second half.

Three other players scored in double figures for Dartmouth. Alex Mitola had 12 points, John Golden scored 11 and Connor Boehm contributed 10.

The Big Green shot 51.1 percent from the field for the game.

The game was tied at 14 midway through the first half, but Dartmouth ran off nine straight points to take the lead for good. Yale's last field goal of the first half came from Michael Grace with 10:37 left. The Bulldogs scored their last eight points from the foul line and trailed 27-20 at the intermission.

Yale was 6-of-26 from the field in the first half, including 1-of-14 from three-point range.

The Bulldogs shot better in the second half (12-of-25) but committed 10 turnovers.

NOTES: Armani Cotton grabbed eight rebounds to lead Yale… Townsend had six rebounds, including five on the offensive end… The Bulldogs were again without the services of Justin Sears, who has an ankle injury. Sears was in uniform but did not play… Nick Victor scored eight points off the bench… Yale is back on the road next weekend, playing at Penn on Friday and at Princeton on Saturday.
