Teams Meet Wednesday In New York

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale learned its CollegeInsider Tournament quarterfinal opponent on Sunday, and as expected it is a familiar foe. The Bulldogs will be heading to New York City to face Ivy League rival Columbia on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

It will be the third meeting between the teams this season. Yale beat the Lions 69-59 at Lee Amphitheater on Jan. 31, but Columbia dealt the Bulldogs a 62-46 loss less than a month later at Levien Gym. The loss in New York came during a stretch that saw Yale drop four of its last five regular season games. The team has used that as motivation during its CIT run.

"We wanted to go out and prove that we are a good team," said Javier Duren, who missed the game at Columbia with an ankle injury.

Both Yale (17-13) and Columbia (21-12) have posted dramatic wins in the CIT. Justin Sears hit a three-pointer with less than a second left in the Bulldogs' 69-68 opening round victory over Quinnipiac at Lee Amphitheater. Yale then won at Holy Cross, 71-66, in the second round.

The Lions were on the road in the first round and used a Maodo Lo step-back jumper as time expired to knock off Valparaiso, 58-56. Columbia then posted an impressive 69-56 victory over Eastern Michigan at Levien Gym on Saturday.
