NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Alex Zampier, who paced Yale with 19 points in Friday's 70-61 victory over Brown, has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week. Zampier shared the honor with Cornell's Louis Dale.
Zampier keyed Yale's comeback win over the Bears. He scored 15 of his points in the second half as the Bulldogs rallied from an early 11-point deficit. The score was tied at 51-51 with 5:16 remaining. That's when Zampier took over. He scored Yale's next seven points, including a huge three-pointer with the shot clock winding down that gave the Bulldogs a 58-54 lead with 3:28 left. Zampier finished seven-of-11 from the field and made all four of his free throws. He also had three assists and two rebounds in 34 minutes.
Zampier is the second Yale player to be named Player of the Week this year. Travis Pinick was honored on Dec. 29.
Yale and Brown play again this Friday at 7 p.m. at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
