Bulldogs Retain Olympic Axe
DERBY, Conn.- In the second dual of the
spring, Yale’s heavyweight crews won their four events over
Dartmouth. The Yale varsity eight won by 2.2 seconds on a windy
morning to ensure that the Olympic Axe stay at Gilder Boathouse for
another year.
The first event of the morning was the third varsity race.
Against the Dartmouth, the Yale third varsity of posted a time of
5:41.0 to Dartmouth’s 6:02.4.
The second event of the day was the freshman eight. In a
closer finish than the previous race, the freshman eight beat
Dartmouth with a time of 5:43.1 to 5:45.5.
The second varsity finished before Dartmouth in 5:37.2 to the
Big Green’s 6:02.4.
The final event of the morning was the varsity eight. The Yale
1V finished off the day by crossing the line before the Dartmouth
varsity eight in a time of 5:24.2 to 5:26.4.
Next up, the Bulldogs travel to Philadelphia to race Penn and
Columbia on Apr. 17 for the Blackwell Cup. This will be the
penultimate race before Eastern Sprints on May 16.
