Heavyweights Win Head of the Housatonic
DERBY, Conn. – The Yale heavyweight crew team began the 2010-2011 season with a win on Saturday at the 2010 Head of the Housatonic. With five eight-man crews entered in the men's IRA collegiate eight event, the Bulldogs were out in full force to defend their title as head race champions of their home course.
The top Yale heavyweight boat posted a time of 14:39.639, which put them in first place. Yale's other heavyweight crews finished in third, fourth, 10th and 11th place. The main intercollegiate competition for the Bulldogs came from Marist and Williams crews. The top Williams boat finished in 15:24.996, which put them in fifth place, while the top Marist crew finished in 15:35.881, putting them in seventh place.
Next Friday the Bulldogs will head to Gales Ferry in New London, Conn., for a weekend of training, followed by the Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass., the weekend of Oct. 23.
