Bulldogs Bound for Providence to Take On Bears

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale heavyweight crew team will open its season against Brown on the Seekonk River in Providence, R.I., this Friday.  The Bulldogs and the Bears will each send three eights and a four, culminating in the varsity eight event on the morning of Mar. 29.

While this matchup was a clean sweep for the Bulldogs at home last year, the last time these two teams raced on the Seekonk it was Brown who defended its home course.  The margin of victory in the varsity eight has always been close in this first race of the season, and in 2011 the difference was less than half a second in favor of Brown.  A win this early in the season would not necessarily point towards success in the championship races of the late spring, but it would certainly help Yale build critical momentum as the squad begins the dual racing portion of the season.

The order of events is as follows:

9:10 AM – V4+

9:30 AM – 3V8+

9:50 AM – JV8+

10:10 AM – V8+

Family and friends that are in town for the race can plan on watching from Narragansett Boat Club, located at 2 River Road, Providence, R.I.  The club is situated in the last 250 meters of the racecourse.
