Freshman Henry Bird (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) was given the Jerry Romano Award, given annually to the oarsman who most thoroughly enjoys the freshman experience.

Senior Tom Lynam (Alexandria, Va.) was given the George Pew Award, given to the team member who distinguishes himself through hard work, dedication and loyalty to Yale Crew in all facets of the program.

Senior Philippe Mastroyannis (Washington, D.C.) was given the Class of 1930 Spirit Award, donated by the Yale Crew Class of 1930 and given annually to the member of the varsity crew for the best cooperative spirit during the year.

Senior Jon Morgan (Johannesburg, South Africa) was given Augustus S. Blagden Trophy, donated in memory of Augustus S. Blagden, Ph.B. 1901 and awarded annually to that senior who, in spirit and action, has done most to enhance the tradition of rowing at Yale.

The final announcement of the evening was that Johnson had been elected captain by his teammates for the 2013-14 season.  The junior from Ross, Calif., has rowed in the varsity eight for the past two years and will take over captainship duties from Morgan.
