DERBY, Conn.- The Yale heavyweight crew team will open its spring racing season at home on the Housatonic River against Brown this Saturday, Mar. 22. The Bulldogs will race the Bears on a 2,000-meter course down the Housatonic, finishing right in front of Yale's Gilder Boathouse.
In the past few years, the race between the first varsity boats in this contest has been incredibly tight. Bruno took first last year by a second and a half, and in 2012 the Bulldogs took first, besting the Bears in a nasty chop by a similar margin. The race this year will no doubt prove exciting.
The results of a dual race this early in the season cannot inform a team of its fate come the championship regattas in the late spring, but it can provide a great deal of momentum for the beginning of a successful campaign. The Bulldogs' months of preparation and grit will surely be tested by the squad from Providence, which is coming off a strong season with medals from both Sprints and IRA's.
