Elis Beat Brown Easily on Seekonk
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The first, second and third heavyweight varsity boats from Yale won races against Brown tonight on the Seekonk River, bringing home the Albert Cup for the fourth straight year.
The two-time defending EARC Champion Eli first varsity won by a little over seven seconds in a 2,000-meter race that took place at high tide on the brackish water. The Blue, negotiating slightly different conditions than the other Bulldog boats, came in at 5:33.9 compared to Brown's time of 5:40.5.
Yale's second varsity had a faster time (5:32.3) than the top boat, utilizing a moderate tailwind that was non-existent for the varsity event. The Eli JVs won by six seconds.
The largest margin of victory for the visitors during this late day racing came in the third varsity contest. The Blue won by nearly 15 seconds with a 5:34.9 time.
Yale's fourth varsity (6:06.6) fell by just over seven seconds, while there was a much greater margin separating the Bears from the Bulldogs in the coxed four (7:38.7).
The Bulldogs are back in racing action next weekend at the 2017 San Diego Crew Classic.
