Sam Baum, a 2009 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, is in his fourth year as the recruiting coordinator for Yale Heavyweight Crew. His role includes working with the third varsity and second freshman squads and overseeing domestic and international recruiting.
Before coming to Yale, Baum was the head coach at Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, Calif., where, over two years, the crew program markedly strengthened.
At Penn, Baum stroked the freshmen eight that won the Eastern Sprints and took bronze at the IRA National Championship in 2006. He went on to receive the most valuable rower award that spring. As an upperclassman, Baum stroked the varsity eight for several of the spring cup races.
Prior to his time at Penn, Baum attended Berkeley High School in Berkeley, Calif., and rowed for the Oakland Strokes, winning three state titles and placing second at US Rowing Youth National Championship in the 8+.
