NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale's open four began the weekend slate of racing this morning for the Yale lightweight rowing team, finishing third in its heat. The crew, racing in a heavyweight event, is made up of Michael Buttrick, Chad Bailey, Joseph Hanlon, Drew Lawson, and coxswain Wendy Lin. Yale finished with a time of 6:29.6, 5.4 seconds behind the Crimson and 1.6 seconds behind Bruno. The Bulldogs finished 3.5 seconds ahead of Cornell.
The open four will resume racing tomorrow with a repechage at 9:30 a.m. Yale will race in lane 4, and will be joined by Cal, Wisconsin, and Penn. In order to advance to Saturday's grand final, the Bulldogs must finish in the top two in their repechage. In addition to Harvard, Washington qualified for the grand final by winning their Thursday heat.
Yale's boats entered in the lightweight eight will weigh-in tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. and begin racing on Saturday.
