NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale lightweight crew team will open its spring season this Saturday, Mar. 31, with a race against Navy. The teams will race for the Johnson Cup on Lake Carnegie, in Princeton, N.J. This race will mark the ninth year of the Johnson Cup, with the series tied at four apiece.
Y150 to Begin Season Against Navy
Navy represents an early season test for the Bulldogs, as Navy has been one of the Bulldogs' consistently dangerous opponents. Last week, Navy opened its season with a race against Princeton, winning three of five races, but fell in the varsity race by 5.3 seconds.
Last year, Yale won four of five races against Navy, including a 3.3 second victory in the varsity race. Yale was also victorious in the second varsity, third varsity and first freshmen races.
