Y150 to race MIT, Georgetown
NEW HAVEN, CONN. – The No. 2 Yale lightweight crew team will travel up to Boston, this Saturday, Apr. 7, to race No. 11 MIT and No. 3 Georgetown on the Charles River. Yale and MIT will race for the Joy Cup, with Georgetown participating as an invited guest. Yale has captured the Joy Cup for the last 32 years. This represents an early season test for the Bulldogs, as Georgetown took down then-No. 2 Princeton last weekend.
Last week, Yale opened its season with a sweep of Navy, capturing the Johnson Cup for the second straight year with a 9-second victory in the varsity race. Racing was highlighted by the freshmen boat's 25-second win. MIT and Georgetown have both raced once this year. MIT participated in the San Diego Crew Classic last weekend, placing 11th. Georgetown opened its season by defeating Princeton and Columbia in the varsity race last weekend.
At last year's Joy Cup race, Yale swept all four races against MIT and Georgetown. Racing in favorable conditions, the varsity earned a 1.1-second victory. In the second varsity race, both the Yale second varsity and the Yale third varsity finished ahead of the Georgetown second varsity.
