NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 5 Yale lightweight crew team is getting ready for a big day of races this Sunday, May 13. The Bulldogs will travel to Worcester, Mass., to compete in the EARC sprints. At stake is not only the EARC title, but also the Ivy League Championship, as well as a berth in the IRA National Championship for the top seven finishers. The lightweights will have had two weeks to prepare and improve since their last competition, the HYP regatta.

The Yale third varsity eight will compete in a finals-only event at 1:40 PM. The boat enters the race ranked fourth and will be positioned in lane 4 for the event.  It will look to avenge its loss to Harvard two weeks ago.

The three other Yale crews will race in heats in the morning, with the top three boats from each heat advancing to the grand final. These other crews will also accumulate points towards the Jope Cup, awarded for overall team supremacy. Yale will look to improve on last year's second-place finish in the Jope Cup standings and take home the trophy.

The first freshman eight is coming off an undefeated season and is currently ranked first. At the HYP regatta, the freshmen faced off against the then undefeated crews from both and Harvard and Princeton and emerged victorious. The freshmen will race against Columbia, Cornell, Georgetown and Navy in their heat at 9:12 AM.

The second varsity eight also finished their season undefeated and are seeded first in the event. The Bulldogs will race Dartmouth, Georgetown, Penn and Princeton in their heat, scheduled for 10:12 AM.

In the varsity race, the No. 5 Yale boat will face a rematch from two weeks ago in their heat at 11:48 AM. Joining Yale will be top-seeded Harvard, Navy, Prenn and Princeton.

Racing will begin at 8:12 AM.
