DERBY, Conn. - The Yale men's lightweight crew team bounced back from a tough defeat against Navy last weekend to beat Engineers of MIT. In doing so, the Bulldogs ensured that the James C. Joy Cup resides at Yale for the 28th consecutive year. MIT last won the event in 1978.
The Bulldogs entered one varsity eight and two freshman eights in the Joy Cup, held at Yale's Gilder Boathouse. All three Yale boats won by a margin of over ten seconds. The biggest win came for the second freshman eight, which put a comfortable 27 seconds on the MIT boat.
Next weekend, Yale will head to Philadelphia where they will face three different crews in two separate regattas all in one day. The Dodge Cup against Columbia and Penn begins at 9:10 am and is followed by Yale's race against Georgetown.
