Bulldogs Move on to Semifinals at Henley

July 1, 2005

The Yale varsity lightweight eight advanced to the semifinals of the 2005 Henley Royal Regatta by defeating Glasgow University by a length and a half.

The Bulldogs finished the 2,000 meters in 6:44, their best time at Henley in the race for the 2005 Temple Challenge Cup.

Despite shaving 10 seconds off their Thursday time with similar conditions, Yale Head Coach Andy Card was more concerned about winning the race and preparing for the semis.

"The time is meaningless because we kind of cruised at the end," Card said. "You have to save yourself for the next day."

This Bulldog boat looks to become the first Yale lightweight champ at Henley since the 2000 varsity won both the national title and the Temple Challenge Cup. Yale's seminfinal opponent and schedule have not been determined.
