NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale's lightweight crews will head to Princeton, N.J., this Sunday to race in at the annual Princeton 3-Mile Chase regatta. The Princeton 3-Mile Chase is an invitational head-race for men's and women's collegiate crews (including freshmen/novice; new this year). The Yale lightweights are sending four varsity eights and one freshman eight. They will also be racing three fours and four pairs.
Y150 crews start the day off at 11:30 a.m. with the varsity lightweight eight. The lightweights won't race again until 2:30 p.m., when their freshman lightweight eight will go down the course. Immediately following that is the varsity lightweight four at 3:00 p.m. The Bulldogs wrap up the day with the small boats event at 4:00 p.m., where Yale lightweights will race in four pairs.
At last year's regatta, aside from the pairs, which finished first, third, fourth and fifth, the results were all over the place. One lightweight eight entered in the heavyweight event finished 10th, and the three Yale eights in the lightweight event finished seventh, 16th and 26th. In the lightweight four, there were more mixed results: eighth, ninth and 23rd.
For the lightweights, this regatta closes the fall racing season. Coach Andy Card noted, in discussing the upcoming regatta, "The whole team is excited about racing as a full squad."
