NEW HAVEN, Conn. - On Friday, Feb. 12, sophomore saberist Nathaniel Benzimra competed at the fencing Junior Olympics, in the saber Junior category. The Junior Olympics are the are the national championships for junior and cadet fencers, and are the precursors for the Junior and Cadet World Fencing Championships. Benzimra placed 71 out of 157 competitors. He was accompanied to Memphis for the tournament by head coach Henry Harutunian.
"Although Nate might not have done as well as he hoped, we are nonetheless moving forward and looking forward to the Ivy Championships," said captain Andrew Holbrook. "Nate has had a fantastic college season and will be a fundamental part of the team these coming weeks. We are all confident that he will return rested and ready to continue his season."
The Bulldogs will next compete in the Ivy North competition on Feb 21, in Ithaca, NY.
