No. 10 Bulldogs Take on Vassar and Drew
Opportunity to Bounce Back
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 10 Yale men's fencing team will take on Vassar in the seventh-floor fencing salon in Payne Whitney Gymnasium on Feb. 4, hoping to repeat last year's 19-8 victory over the Brewers.
Saturday's competition will give the Bulldogs an opportunity to rebound after last week's tough 17-10 loss to No. 9 Sacred Heart at home. This weekend's match-up is the Elis' second at home, in front of what is expected to be a strong crowd, and will provide good preparation in the lead-up to the Feb. 11-12 Ivy League Championships, held this year at home at Coxe Cage.
The team will look to last year's result against Vassar for inspiration. Then, the Elis remained in control in all three weapons. The Bulldogs posted a 6-3 verdict in epee, 6-3 in saber and 7-2 in foil. Those results were highlighted by senior captain Shiv Kachru's 3-0 record in foil.
"This is our final tournament before the Ivy League Championships, and we are using this match as a final tune up to make sure we are ready," Kachru said. " We have been building up for Ivies all year long, and this is our final chance to prepare ourselves for the following weekend."
The Vassar match will take place at 1:00 PM, after which the Bulldogs will take on Drew at 3:00 PM.
After the Bulldogs wrap up the weekend's competition, they will have a week before the Ivy League Championships.
