Five-way Competition in Waltham

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Looking to wrap up fall competition on a strong note, the Yale men's fencing team will compete this weekend at the Dec. 2 Brandeis Invitational in Waltham, Mass.

There, the Elis will look to repeat or better their result at last year's competition, where they posted a strong 4-1 record. That performance included victories against Boston College, Brandeis, MIT and UNC.

This year the Bulldogs head into the Brandeis Invitational with one fall tournament under their belt, the Nov. 3-4 Penn State Garret Open. At the Garret Open, three fencers—sophomore Hugh O'Cinneide and freshmen Jin Ishizuka and Brian Wang—made the direct-elimination round of 16 in their respective weapons divisions, marking a strong opening to the 2012-13 season.

At the Brandeis Invitational this year, Yale will face Brandeis, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, St. John's and UNC. The tournament will bring to a close fall competition for the Bulldogs; they will then break until a Jan. 19 bout at home against Sacred Heart.
