Look to Build on Last Year's 3-2 Record

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A difficult competition lies ahead of the Yale men's fencing team, which will travel to New York to compete in the Jan. 27 NYU Invitational this weekend.

In the past three years, the Elis have posted 3-2 records at the NYU Invitational. Last year's result included substantial victories against NYU, UNC, and Wayne State.

As such, the team will look a similarly strong performance at this year's competition to help build momentum as it progresses through spring competition. This weekend's fencing will provide the Bulldogs an opportunity to bounce back after losing a 13-14 heartbreaker to Sacred Heart at home on Jan. 19.

Still, that match-up included several strong performances—freshman Brian Wang and sophomore Hugh O'Cinneide both posted 3-0 records—that the team will hope to carry over to the NYU meet.

After this weekend, the Elis will take on Vassar in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Feb. 2. The season will then culminate in the Feb. 9-10 Ivy League Championship, held this year at Harvard in Cambridge, Mass.
