Caps Off 2012-13 Season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Several members of the Yale men's fencing team received awards at the end of season banquet last Saturday night to recognize their achievements throughout the 2012-13 season.

Junior Peter Cohen, who finished 17th in epee competition at the NCAA National Championship, won two awards: the Stephen Blum Award for the manager for the men's fencing team and Coach Harutunian Award for Best Junior.

Another NCAA National Championship competitor, sophomore Hugh O'Cinneide, was awarded the Coach Harutunian Award for Best Sophomore.

Re-elected to captain the Bulldogs next season, junior Cornelius Saunders received the "Pop" Grasson Cup for the captain of the team.

Freshman Brian Wang won the Kristaps Keggi Award, which is given to a freshman member of the team who "best exemplifies the qualities of competitive spirit, achievement, and dedication to Yale Fencing."

The banquet also provided an appropriate opportunity to farewell two team members at the other end of their Yale careers: seniors Nate Benzimra and William Zhao, who have consistently contributed to the team's performance in the past few years.
