  • Men's Fencing Elects Captain for 2017-2018 Season

    At Yale’s end of season banquet, senior epeeist Avery Vella was elected by his peers to be the 2017-2018 men’s team captain.
  • Yale Honors Six Seniors and One Team with Awards at Senior Student-Athlete Reception

    Six seniors and one team were honored by the Yale Athletics Department with awards at the annual senior student-athlete reception Saturday afternoon at the Lanman Center in Payne Whitney Gymnasium. The men’s fencing team earned the Brodhead Award for highest team grade point average. Emily Barnes (Louisville, Colo.) of the women’s cross country and track & field teams and Jackson Stallings (Moore, Okla.) of the football team were the recipients of the Ford Student-Athlete Community Outreach Award. Barnes and Frederick Muth (Los Angeles, Calif.) of the men’s fencing team were the recipients of the Kiphuth Student-Athlete Distinction Award. Mackenzie Franklin (Austin, Texas) of the women’s swimming & diving team and Denzell Jobson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) of the men’s track & field team were the recipients of the Meyer Humanitarian Award. Robin Molen-Grigull (Sydney, Australia) of the heavyweight crew team was the recipient of the Amanda Walton Award.

  • Winter Academic All-Ivy Announced

    The Ivy League released its list of student-athletes selected for 2016-17 Academic All-Ivy honors in its winter sports today. Ten Bulldogs were recognized. They were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with 3.0 or better cumulative grade point averages.

    The Yale men's fencing team concluded its season with a banquet honoring the 2016-2017 performances of several members as well as the senior class' contribution to the program.
  • Fencing Season Concludes at NCAAs

    After two days and five rounds of competition, the 2017 National Collegiate Men’s Fencing Championship concluded on Friday. Three Bulldogs fenced at the event hosted by the University of Notre Dame and Indiana Sports Corp.
  • First Three Rounds Complete at NCAAs
    March 23, 2017
    The first three rounds of competition at the NCAA Fencing Championships took place Thursday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum, with three Yale men's fencers in action. Freshman Aiden Ahn led the way in foil with six wins, while sophomore Walter Musgrave (saber) and freshman Isaac Shelanski (epee) notched five wins each. Ahn and Musgrave are currently in 20th place in their weapons, while Shelanski is 21st.
  • Trio of Bulldogs Ready for NCAAs

    Starting Thursday, three Bulldogs will represent the Yale men’s fencing team at the 2017 National Collegiate Men’s Fencing Championship hosted by the University of Notre Dame and Indiana Sports Corp. Sophomore Walter Musgrave will make his second appearance at the Championship alongside freshmen Aiden Ahn and Isaac Shelanski.

    Three member of the Yale men's fencing team have been selected to compete in the National Collegiate Men's Fencing Championship: freshman Aiden Ahn (Los Angeles, Calif.) in foil, sophomore Walter Musgrave (Escondido, Calif.) in saber and freshman Isaac Shelanski (Washington, D.C.) in epee. The NCAA Men’s and Women’s Fencing Committee announced the field of 144 competitors Tuesday.

    By the end of the first day of competition at the 2017 Ivy League Round-Robins, the Yale men's fencing team was tied for third place with a 1-1 team record. The Bulldogs lost a close match to No. 6 Princeton early in the day before rebounding with a sound win over Brown.

    After two days of competition, the Yale men's fencing team ended the 2017 Ivy League Round-Robins with a dramatic win over Harvard and earned its best finish in recent memory. With a final team record of 2-3, the Bulldogs finished in fourth place.

    On Sunday, the Yale men's fencing team had one of its best days in recent history, going undefeated at the Brandeis Invitational. Led by freshman Aiden Ahn who won 12 of his 14 bouts in foil, the Bulldogs were dominant throughout the day and scored an upset victory over St. John's in the fourth round.

    Sophomore Walter Musgrave was the top finisher for Yale men's fencing team at the 44th Annual Garret Penn State Open on Sunday, earning fifth place in saber. Up against fencers from Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn, Penn State and UNC, the Bulldogs held their own with five fencers placing in the top-20 for their respective weapons.
