An 8-1 victory over NYU in epee made up for losses in foil and sabre as the men's fencing team defeated the Violets 15-12 in New York City.
The Bulldogs were bested by the Violets 6-3 in the foil division and 5-4 in sabre, but dominated in the third category of epee, winning 8 of 9 bouts. That proved to be the difference as Yale earned its first win of the season.
The Elis will resume their season after break with a January 21st competition against Brandeis.
