Cozza Honored at Team Fundraiser
Golf Outing Sold Out In Advance
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - There has always been plenty of support for the Yale Football program during its fundraising golf event at the famous Course at Yale each summer. That support grew to record levels on Aug. 9 with a sold-out golf tournament and an overflow crowd in the big tent stationed off the third fairway. They all came to talk about the Bulldogs and celebrate the 80th birthday of Yale coaching legend Carm Cozza, the tournament honoree.
Pat Ruwe '83, the president of the Yale Football Association, who has helped so many of Yale Football's fundraising efforts, produced a book of letters, anecdotes and testimonials from four decades of Elis to honor the former coach. Ruwe had a lot of help from Greg Hall '77. The publication was one of many gifts bestowed upon Cozza that afternoon.
The event, sponsored by the Burkus brothers (Ken '75, Greg '83) centers around the battle for the Cozza Cup, earned by the winner of the golf (scramble format) tournament. In order to win the cup, you must have at least three former Yale players, who were teammates in New Haven, playing together.
The 2010 Cozza Cup Champions were Chandler Henley '06, Jeff Mroz '05, Andrew Ralph '06 and Craig Tomasino '06. The runner-ups were Chris Wright '07, Ashley Wright '07, Ed McCarthy '07 and Josh Rodarmel '07. The team of Larry Ross '79, Pat O'Brien '79, John Spagnola '79 and Bob Krystniak '79 finished third.
One of the highlights of the event is the live auction, where attendees bid on some incredible prizes, including golf vacations.
Thanks to all of the sponsors and auction donors for making this a great day for Yale Football.
