Junior RB Gets NE Writers' Award

BOSTON, Mass. – Mordecai Cargill's career-best outing last week already netted him Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week honors. Another was added today when the New England Football Writers' Gridiron Club of Greater Boston named him one of two Gold Helmet Award winners for week nine of the season.

Cargill, starting in place of the injured Alex Thomas, plowed through the snow at Wien Stadium for 230 yards on 42 carries in Yale's 16-13 win over Columbia on Oct. 29. The Cleveland, Ohio, native nearly doubled his season total in both categories with the big day.

This is the first Gold Helmet for a Bulldog since Philippe Panico earned the honor after kicking the game-winning field goal at Dartmouth a year ago.

The Bulldogs host Brown at noon Saturday at Yale Bowl and the Class of '54 Field.
