10 Bulldogs Earn All-Ivy Status

Haynes Makes First Team

PRINCETON, NJ – The Yale football team was well represented when all-star selections were announced today. The Bulldogs had 11 selections, including 10 different players with someone on each group picked for the 2011 All-Ivy League Football Team. Senior captain Jordan Haynes (Folsom, Calif.) earned first-team honors while junior Chris Smith (Midlothian, Va.) was a second-team selection as both a WR and a kick returner.

Haynes, a first-team pick for the second straight year, led the Bulldogs in tackles with 95, while Smith led the Blue with 480 kickoff return yards and was second (28) in receptions despite being limited by injuries to six games. It was Smith's second straight second-team selection.

Seven Yale players made the second team. Five seniors, PR Gio Christodoulou (Miami, Fla.), DT Jake Stoller (Shaker Heights, Ohio), OL Gabe Fernandez (Honolulu, Hawaii), DB Drew Baldwin (Alexandria, Va.) and RB Alex Thomas (Ansonia, Conn.) and juniors LB Will McHale (Greenwich, Conn.) and Smith were on the second unit.

Christodoulou, the school's career leader in punt return yards, averaged 10 yards on 23 attempts. Stoller led the Blue with five sacks playing in front of Baldwin, who had a team-high eight pass breakups with one interception, and McHale, second on the team with 79 tackles. Fernandez started every game at offensive guard and helped Yale average better than four yards per rush this fall. Thomas led the team with 732 rushing yards, a 5.5 average and four TDs.

There were two honorable mention picks. Senior QB Patrick Witt (Wylie, Texas), a two-time All-Ivy selection, completed 62 percent of his passes and was responsible for 21 touchdowns. Sophomore WR Deon Randall (San Diego, Calif.) led the Elis with 48 catches for 523 yards and three scores.
