7 Bulldogs Make Steele's All-Ivy Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The football practice fields across Derby Avenue from Yale Bowl are about to get busy. The Yale football team, which reports to campus on Aug. 15, is on the field for the first time this summer at 3 p.m. on Aug. 17.

That two-hour opening practice follows various testing procedures and meetings in preparation for the less-than four-week sprint to the season opener at Georgetown on Sept. 15.

The Bulldogs, picked to finish fifth by the Ivy League media, are led by Tony Reno, the Joel E. Smilow '54 Head Coach, in his first season.

The most recent pre-season All-Ivy Team announced, from Phil Steele Publications, included seven Yale players. The Elis selected for the first team were TB Mordecai Cargill (Cleveland, Ohio), WR/KR Chris Smith (Midlothian, Va.), DB Nick Okano (Los Angeles, Calif.) and LB Will McHale (Old Greenwich, Conn.).

FB Elijah Thomas (Rochester, NY), WR Deon Randall (San Diego, Calif.) and DL Chris Dooley (Massapequa, NY) were second-team selections.

Yale, opening the season against a team playing its third regular-season game, has scheduled a few closed (not open to the public) scrimmages, including the Sept. 1 meeting with Brown. Other than regular practices on Clint Frank Field and the fields beyond the baseball stadium, the first opportunity for the fans to see the 2012 Bulldogs in New Haven is the home opener on Sept. 29 against Colgate.

Here is the practice schedule for the first 11 days.
