Varga On Another Watch List
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale football team is set to report back to campus on Sunday and have its first practice on Tuesday. While the Bulldogs were preparing for the 2013 season on their own, numerous Elis were tabbed with pre-season accolades.
The latest was tailback Tyler Varga (Kitchener, Ont.), who today was named to the "Watch List" for the FCS Performer of the Year by College Football Performance Awards.
Varga (in photo), a junior who played in Canada his freshman year, led the FCS in average all-purpose yards as an Ivy League newcomer in 2012. He also topped the Ancient Eight in many rushing categories while playing both tailback and quarterback.
The Ivy League coaches vote for the offensive and defensive players of the year, so CFPA's watch list would have no impact on that. However, the Yale standout is one of six league players included on that list. The others are Michael Yules (Brown), Jeff Mathews (Cornell), Zach Hodges (Harvard), Daniel Davis (Penn) and Caraun Reid (Princeton).
Varga is one of many experienced offensive weapons Yale returns this fall. They are much needed with one of the toughest non-league schedules in recent times, including a Sept. 21 season opener at Colgate.
