Newport, R.I. - Following a strong performance against Ancient Eight rivals Harvard and Princeton in last weekend's season-opening win, the men's golf team travels to Newport, R.I. for the 75th Adams Cup, a 17-team tournament which features some of the best teams on the Eastern Seaboard.
The Bulldogs, led by captain and reigning Ivy League Player of the Year Tom McCarthy, showed they are the cream of the Ivy League crop yet again this year as they handled the Crimson and Tigers last weekend at Sebonack in Southampton, N.Y. Sophomore Bradley Kushner won his two matches, picking up right where he left off from a strong debut campaign last season, and freshman Sam Bernstein, whose preseason tournament win made him the first freshman in 25 years to win such an event, also established himself as a go-to player for the Elis, taking both of his matches, as well.
Coach Colin Sheehan's '97 squad will need McCarthy, Kushner, Bernstein, and the rest of the Elis to continue their hot play this weekend in Newport, as they will be teeing off with the likes of Central Florida, UConn, Michigan State, Boston College, and Villanova. Also in the field are Ivy League rivals Brown and in-state competition Hartford and Central Connecticut.
The Elis will tee off Monday morning for the first of two days of the competition hosted by the University of Rhode Island.
